THE PRESIDENT
Prof. Albert A. Addo-Quaye is a Professor of Agronomy and a seasoned educationist, agronomist, scholar, researcher and administrator in Ghana. He can provide leadership and mentoring and demonstrate his multitasking abilities across all these and other related fields.
Prof. Addo-Quaye has had many years of experience in university administration. He was the immediate past President of the Anglican University College of Technology, Ghana from 2014 to 2018. Prior to this appointment he held various academic management and administrative positions in other institutions. At the University of Cape Coast, he was Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Research; Dean of Students; Vice-Dean, School of Agriculture; Head, Department of Crop Science; Hall Master, VALCO Trust Fund Graduate Hostel and Senior Tutor, Casely Hayford Hall. He also served as Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Research; Dean, School of Business Management and Administration and Head, Department of Agribusiness Management at Central University, Accra.
Prof. Addo-Quaye has over 34 years’ experience in teaching, research and development and extension in Crop Physiology, Field Crop Production and Management, Horticulture, Integrated Farming Systems for the Tropics, Crop Quality and Post-harvest Physiology and Agribusiness Management aimed at food security and sustainable food production. He has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at the University of Cape Coast and Central University. Prof. Addo-Quaye has also won research grants as Principal Investigator/Collaborating Scientist to execute institutional, national, EU, FAO, CIDA, AVRDC and World Bank sponsored agricultural projects in Ghana for over three decades.
Prof. Addo-Quaye had his secondary education at the La Bone Secondary School, Accra and Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast. He graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a BSc degree in Agriculture and a Diploma in Education. He furthered his education at Wye College (now Imperial College at Wye), University of London, Kent, England under a United Kingdom Commonwealth Postgraduate Scholarship Award and was awarded the PhD degree in Agronomy in 1985. Prof. Addo-Quaye was also a recipient of the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship Award and spent one year as a Visiting Scholar at the Plant Environment Laboratory, Department of Agriculture, University of Reading, England from 1992 to 1993.
Prof. Addo-Quaye has participated in several local and international conferences, seminars and workshops where he read papers and chaired scientific sessions. He has authored and or co-authored over 70 books, course modules, refereed journal papers and conference papers. He is currently a reviewer for many national and international scholarly journals and has also served as External Examiner for universities in Ghana and other West African countries. These include the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi; University of Ghana, Legon, College of Agriculture Education, University of Education, Mampong Campus; Central University, Accra and the Universite d’Abomey Calavi, Benin.
Prof. Addo-Quaye has received numerous national and international awards. In November 2011, He was elected a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute, an institute based in Oklahoma, USA that recognizes the achievements of scientists and technologists of the black race world-wide. He has also been a member of other professional bodies including the Institute of Biology, London; African Crop Science Society; Ghana Institute of Horticulturists and the Ghana Science Association.
Professor Addo-Quaye has contributed immensely towards the development of education in Ghana. He was member of the Ghana Educational Reforms Review Committee and served as a Chief Examiner in Agricultural Science and Agriculture for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for several years. He assisted the Curriculum Research and Development Division of the Ghana Education Service to develop curricula in Agriculture for second cycle schools. He is currently chairman of the Governing Council of the Organization Development (OD) Institute, Accra; member, Board of Regents, Kings University College, Accra; member, Governing Council of St. Nicholas Seminary, Cape Coast. He was formerly Government nominee and member of the Governing Council of Koforidua Technical University as well as a member of the Interim Governing Council of Wiawso College of Education.
